coming clean :: week twenty one

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by the end of the summer. Okay, let's say, September 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

target % weight loss : 13.16% ~ 16.45%
weeks one ~ twelve: 5.32%
week thirteen % weight loss: 1.05%
week fourteen % weight loss: 0.35%
week fifteen % weight loss: 1.42%
week sixteen % weight loss: -0.72%
week seventeen % weight loss: 0%
week eighteen % weight loss: 1.07%
week nineteen % weight loss: -0.36%
week twenty % weight loss: 0%
week twenty one % weight loss: 1.08%
total % weight loss: 9.21%

Week 17 was my last 'public' weigh-in. My blog may've been on vacay, but that doesn't mean 'Coming Clean' had been, too! I tapered twice in April, which made it really hard to lose weight. I was exercising less and eating just as much. I also tried to go on a two-week 'naughty points' fast. I came pretty close to making it! I'll have to try to deprive myself again some time. :: wink ::

Now that it's May, I have a new weight-loss goal -- to lose the last ten pesky pounds by September. Wish me luck!

15 April 2009

coming clean :: you're feeling very sleepy

Sorry, folks, must take a blog nap. At minimum, I'll try to post Coming Clean weekly weigh-ins and the occasional 'Flavor of the Day' tune. I hope to be back in full-force again in May. Until then... stay clean and far away from 'naughty points'! :: wink ::

06 April 2009

coming clean :: week seventeen

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

target % weight loss : 13.16% ~ 16.45%
weeks one ~ twelve: 5.32%
week thirteen % weight loss: 1.05%
week fourteen % weight loss: 0.35%
week fifteen % weight loss: 1.42%
week sixteen % weight loss: -0.72%
week seventeen % weight loss: 0%
total % weight loss: 7.42%

I was battling shin splints and tapering this past week for the 10 miler yesterday, and it was really hard to control food intake whilst not being able to exercise as much as I had been. Of course, I could've also curbed the 'naughty points'. And I will! In a week!

So, with less than a month to go, it doesn't look like I'm going to achieve my goal of 13.16% ~ 16.45% weight loss. That's okay; At the end of the month, I'll just have to keep going and move the end date to Labor Day!

I've been battling shin splints for a while, and really didn't want to aggravate it the week before the race. So I limited myself to one 3 mile jog in the middle of the week
and did a lot more elliptical than usual. I hope I did Hal Higdon proud for doing all but two workouts!

P.S. My scale actually looks like that, only it's not digital and it didn't cost me 80 clams. Some times, you can find nifty things at

30 March 2009

coming clean :: week sixteen

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::
target % weight loss : 13.16% ~ 16.45%
weeks one ~ twelve: 5.32%
week thirteen % weight loss: 1.05%
week fourteen % weight loss: 0.35%
week fifteen % weight loss: 1.42%
week sixteen % weight loss: -0.72%
total % weight loss: 7.42%

Well, I can't say I'm surprised. I went on a bit of a 'naughty points' binge on the day before weigh-in! :: guilty ::

At my Week 12 weigh-in, I decided to move Week 7 of my training program down to the week before the race. And that's where we are now with 'vanilla cupcake' stars across the board! I also gave myself a 'red velvet' star for the 8 mile run I wasn't able to do last week.

Here we are, at the last week of training! Can you believe it?!! :: happy dance ::

P.S. My scale actually looks like that, only it's not digital and it didn't cost me 80 clams. Some times, you can find nifty things at Target!

23 March 2009

coming clean :: week fifteen

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

target % weight loss : 13.16% ~ 16.45%
weeks one ~ twelve: 5.32%
week thirteen % weight loss: 1.05%
week fourteen % weight loss: 0.35%
week fifteen % weight loss: 1.42%
total % weight loss: 8.14%

This was an unexpected surprise! For one, I had been nursing shin splints all week. And two, I was on a 'naughty points' binge for most of the week! This doesn't mean I hadn't been exercising. But by laying off jogging and scarfing down one 'naughty point' after another, I thought that I wouldn't be posting a positive % weight loss. It might've had something to do with the luck 'o the Irish. Or, in my case, the not-Irish :: wink ::

With the exception of the 5+ miles I did
yesterday, my owwie shin splints kept me from doing any running this week. :: sniff ::

P.S. My scale actually looks like that, only it's not digital and it didn't cost me 80 clams. Some times, you can find nifty things at

16 March 2009

coming clean :: week fourteen

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

target % weight loss : 13.16% ~ 16.45%
weeks one ~ twelve: 5.32%
week thirteen % weight loss: 1.05%
week fourteen % weight loss: 0.35%
total % weight loss: 6.72%

I'm okay with this small percentage because my weekly average weight was actually lower than it was at weigh-in. The less 'naughty points' you eat, the more weight you lose. What a novel concept! It only took me, what, fourteen weeks to figure it out?!!

Probs not the best thing to do, but I've been running with pretty bad shin splints. But they're being monitored by me and well taken care of by my team of acupuncturists. :: heh :: I promise to ease off of them once the race is over. That's just a few weeks away!

At my Week 12 weigh-in, I decided to move Week 7 of my training program down to the week before the race. I got one 'red velvet' star because the fun run happened to fall on a Sunday!

09 March 2009

coming clean :: week thirteen

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

target % weight loss : 13.16% ~ 16.45%
weeks one ~ twelve: 5.32%
week thirteen % weight loss: 1.05%
total % weight loss: 6.37%

I was conscious about my 'naughty points' and jogged a few more times this week. The race is less than a month away!

My
training for the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler has become a bit chaotic. I haven't been doing the long runs in one go; I've broken them up into two shorter runs. I know it's not recommended, and I will do my best to get one in this week.

P.S. My scale actually looks like that, only it's not digital and it didn't cost me 80 clams. Some times, you can find nifty things at

02 March 2009

coming clean :: week twelve

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

target % weight loss : 13.16% ~ 16.45%
week one % weight loss: 2.30%
week two % weight loss: 0%
week three % weight loss: 0.67%
week four % weight loss: 2.03%
week five % weight loss: [on vacay - recorded as 0%]
week six % weight loss: [on vacay - recorded as 0%]
week seven % weight loss: -1.04%
week eight % weight loss: -0.34%
week nine % weight loss: -0.34%
week ten % weight loss: 1.70%
week eleven % weight loss: 1.04%
week twelve % weight loss: -0.70%
total % weight loss: 5.32%

Oopsies...! I think this might have a little something to do with the pit-stop we made at Cracker Barrel on the way back to DC yesterday. On a positive note, my weekly average weight was the closest it's ever been to my weigh-in weight. My weight can fluctuate a few pounds every day, but this week was pretty consistent. I've done up pretty Excel spreadsheets of all these numbers, and will share them with y'all as soon as I've caught up on my 'Coming Clean' entries.

I got a little behind in my training for the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler because I took Monday and Saturday off. I'll do my best to stay away from 'red velvet' stars next week!

I've also been thinking of moving Week 7 down to Week 9. A week-long taper seems rather short for a 10 miler!

P.S. My scale actually looks like that, only it's not digital and it didn't cost me 80 clams. Some times, you can find nifty things at Target!

23 February 2009

coming clean :: week eleven

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

week nine % weight loss: -0.34%
week ten % weight loss: 1.70%
week eleven % weight loss: 1.04%
total % weight loss: 6.02%

Another successful week! It might have a little something to do with the five-day 'naughty points' fast before my "official" weigh-in at the doctor's office this past Friday. Nevertheless, I'm very pleased!

This includes the progress I'm making in training for the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler. The weekly miles are starting to add up!

P.S. My scale actually looks like that, only it's not digital and it didn't cost me 80 clams. Some times, you can find nifty things at Target!

16 February 2009

coming clean :: week ten

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

week eight % weight loss: -0.34%
week nine % weight loss: -0.34%
week ten % weight loss: 1.70%
total % weight loss: 4.98%

I'm finally back on track! I have "official" weigh-in this Friday at the doctor's office, so I'll have to stay away from all 'naughty points' until then :: wink ::

My training
for the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler has been going well. I've enrolled in a running "class" to spice things up. Another week of gold stars!

14 February 2009

coming clean :: my skinny valentine

Dear Skinny Jeans --

Thanks for coming to the rescue last night. You were already nestled so comfortably in the hamper, but I thought you might want to join me for one last outing. After a huge plate of sushi, we came home content. I was so happy with the way you were wrapped around me. So tightly, as you had been when we first met.

We haven't known each other long. We found each other and fell in love this past Thanksgiving. You moved in with me and found your niche right away. We've shared a lot of good times since then.

But... I think it's time we move on. We don't mesh the way we used to. Even when we snuggle, you seem distant. Don't you feel the eerie space between us, too?

No, I haven't found someone else. I still love you, Skinny Jeans. I always will. I just don't think we were meant to be together... forever.

coming clean :: week nine

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

week seven % weight loss: -1.04%
week eight % weight loss: -0.34%
week nine % weight loss: -0.34%
total % weight loss: 3.29%

Oh no -- I'm undoing all of the weight I lost during the first four weeks! I gotta get back on track. Seriously.

While I may not be doing so well on the 'naughty points' front, I've been keeping up with my Cherry Blossom 10 Miler
training program. All gold stars this week!

02 February 2009

coming clean :: week eight

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

week six % weight loss: [on vacay - recorded as 0%]
week seven % weight loss: -1.04%
week eight % weight loss: -0.34%
total % weight loss: 3.63%

Oopsies... I'm going in the wrong direction, aren't I? Weight-wise, I've been pretty consistent this past week. But 'naughty points'-wise, I've been off the charts!

As for my Cherry Blossom 10 Miler training program progress, I got a little behind a few days (see 'red velvet cupcake' stars) but got all of the workouts done. Hopefully you'll see a lot more 'vanilla cupcake' stars in the weeks to come. I've already switched Saturdays and Sundays workouts, and might have to do the same with Mondays and Tuesdays ones. But I will get them done!

26 January 2009

coming clean :: week seven

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

week five % weight loss: [on vacay - recorded as 0%]
week six % weight loss: [on vacay - recorded as 0%]
week seven % weight loss: -1.04%
total % weight loss: 3.96%

The weigh-in took place just a few days after I returned from vacay, so I knew it wasn't gonna be pretty. I'm back to my normal workout schedule now, so things should be better from hereon out. :: fingers crossed ::

P.S. My scale actually looks like that, only it's not digital and it didn't cost me 80 clams. Some times, you can find nifty things at Target!

05 January 2009

coming clean :: week four

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

week one % weight loss: 2.30%
week two % weight loss: 0%
week three % weight loss: 0.67%
week four % weight loss: 2.03%
total % weight loss: 5%

I'm not sure if these numbers are entirely accurate, as I skipped dinner last night because of a late lunch. But I'll take it!

I'm going on vacay soon, and will not be able to do my weekly weigh-ins for two weeks. I wonder how much they'll charge me for stepping up on the ones they have at the airline counters...!

29 December 2008

coming clean :: week three

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la 'The Biggest Loser', instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

week one % weight loss: 2.30%
week two % weight loss: 0%
week three % weight loss: 0.67%
total % weight loss: 2.97%

Now, if this was really TBL, I probably would've been kicked off by now. Thankfully, it isn't! So I'm going to continue to putter along. Probably step it up in the healthier eating portion of the competition. The holidays will be over soon, so that should be reflected in next week's numbers. :: fingers crossed ::

22 December 2008

coming clean :: week two

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. (approx. 9 ~ 11 kgs.) by May 2009. But à la "The Biggest Loser", instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

target % weight loss : 13.16% ~ 16.45%
week one % weight loss: 2.30%
week two % weight loss: 0%
total % weight loss: 2.30%

I'm not gonna get hung up on this. I've been exercising regularly. But I can definitely cut down on Naughty Points!

19 December 2008

coming clean :: and the winner is...

Oh, we have a tie! What do we have for the winners, (borderline) Anemia and (you better watch it!) Cholesterol? How does an eight-week 1,200 calories/day diet sound at the most wonderful time of the year?!!

Thanks a lot, bloodwork results! Better get crackin'. It's going to be a rough eight weeks... :: weeps ::

15 December 2008

coming clean :: week one

My target weight loss is 20 ~ 25 lbs. by May 2009. But à la "The Biggest Loser", instead of going by overall weight lost, I'll be posting it as percentage of body weight lost. The results are... :: drum roll please ::

target % weight loss : 13.16% ~ 16.45%
week one % weight loss: 2.30%
total % weight loss: 2.30%

Somehow that doesn't seem right. But let's go with it for now.

UPDATE
@ 13:29: I found these very helpful spreadsheets in a thread in the TBL forums. It's EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thanks, LIBMRPIGS!

I linked the above spreadsheets with my 'coming clean' spreadsheet, and my calculations were correct! :: happy dance ::

08 December 2008

coming clean :: intro

I've been avoiding getting my yearly physical (usually done in February), but due to certain circumstances, got talked into getting one... TOMORROW! I have to stop eating in 1:23 for my 12 hour fast. :: waah ::

I already know the results aren't going to be good. So, before my doc tells me that I need to cut down on cupcakes and exercise more, I am starting a new, two-part online project called "Coming Clean". It will not only chronologize (chronicle + analyze) my weight, naughty points and workouts, but will also include my post-workout "coming clean" where I share my love of handmade face & body products with y'all. It's a win-win situation!

I know it's a little early for New Year's Resolutions, but since I'm already here... I'd like to:

(a) In April, run the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler in around 1:30. I plan to use Hal Higdon's 15k Training Guide for Novice Runners as a guide.

(b) In May, get down to 130-135 lbs. It works out to an average of 4-5 lbs. a month. You do the math :)

That's it for now. Oh, now we're down to 1:05 until the fast begins...
